Vittoriano in Rome extends summer evening openings with special programs

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-26

Starting July 5, 2024, the Vittoriano in Rome, part of the VIVE museum circuit, extends its evening openings every Friday until September 13 (except August 16) and on Saturdays July 6, September 7 and 14, staying open until 11:30 PM (last entry 10:45 PM). The panoramic terrace is included. The extended hours aim to improve accessibility and attract a diverse audience. Educational activities for children and families include 'Cartoline al chiaro di Luna' and 'Vittoriano sotto le stelle', guided storytelling and exploration with maps, torches, and compasses. Adult guided tours focus on the monument's links to cinema ('Il Vittoriano e le stelle del cinema') and its architectural highlights ('Una sera al Vittoriano'), all ending at the terrace. Daytime educational activities on Saturdays are managed by Opera Laboratori Fiorentini at both the Vittoriano and Palazzo Venezia. From July 26, 2024, the Sommoportico and Propilei—spaces designed by Giuseppe Sacconi, winner of the 1884 competition for the Vittoriano—reopened to the public. The Sommoportico, over 70 meters long with 16 monumental columns 15 meters high, and the adjacent Propilei offer views from the Fori to the Colosseum eastward and from Teatro di Marcello to San Pietro westward.
