Vittore Fossati's 'Effetti personali' retrospective in Alessandria

The Sale d’Arte di Alessandria hosts 'Effetti personali. Fotografie 1981 – 2018', a retrospective of Vittore Fossati (born 1954 in Alessandria) featuring over seventy photographs. Curated by Giovanna Calvenzi with Fossati, the exhibition runs until January 12, 2025. It opens with the 'Viaggio in Italia' section, including two works from the 1984 collective show curated by Luigi Ghirri, Gianni Leone, and Enzo Velati—Oviglio (1981) and Santo Stefano Belbo (1983). Subsequent sections include 'Belle Arti' (1993–1996) documenting painter and ceramist Bruno Severino (1952–2018); 'Osservazioni fotografiche lungo il corso del torrente Scrivia' (1996); 'Viaggio in un paesaggio terrestre' (1997–2002) co-created with writer Giorgio Messori; 'Il Tanaro a Masio' (six years of riverside reflections); 'Storie immaginate in luoghi reali' (commissioned by the Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea di Cinisello Balsamo-Milano); and 'Dove sono i Pirenei' (postcards, book illustrations, and shots of the Pyrenees). Fossati describes his practice as merging biographical, geographical, and metaphorical aspects, echoing Robert Adams's concept of 'attachment to life.' Calvenzi notes his refined curiosity and ability to blend objective territory investigation with subjective self-representation, often using playful titles.
