Vittore Carpaccio Returns to Venice with Major Exhibition at Palazzo Ducale
A new exhibition at Palazzo Ducale in Venice, curated by Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, brings together the scattered works of Vittore Carpaccio following its showing at the National Gallery of Art in Washington. Co-curator Andrea Bellieni seeks to trace Carpaccio's artistic evolution, showcasing six canvases from the Scuola degli Albanesi, organ loft panels from the Cathedral of Capodistria, and the 'Due dame' table. The display emphasizes Carpaccio's drawings, including 'Caccia in valle,' and his artistic influences. Originally named Vittore Scarpazza, Carpaccio rose to prominence 60 years ago at Palazzo Ducale, with his name later popularized by Arrigo Cipriani's 'carpaccio' dish in 1950. The exhibition is now on view at Palazzo Ducale after its Washington engagement.
