Visteria Foundation mounts Polish Modernism exhibition at Torre Velasca during Milan Design Week 2026

architecture-design · 2026-04-20

From April 20 to 26, 2026, the Visteria Foundation will host 'Polish Modernism. A struggle for Beauty' at Torre Velasca in Milan. Curated by Anna Maga and Federica Sala, this exhibition examines Polish design as a form of cultural resistance, referencing a 1948 work by Irena Krzywicka. It contrasts historical pieces with modern interpretations, showcasing artists such as Katarzyna Kobro, Edward Krasiński, and Władysław Strzemiński. The National Museum in Warsaw will lend furniture by Jan Kurzątkowski, Bohdan Lachert, and Teresa Kruszewska's Muszelka chair. Zofia Wyganowska Studio will create scenography that reflects the venue's brutalist roots. The exhibition also features the IWP (IID)_Design Repository_2.0 project and commissioned works from designers like Tomek Rygalik and Maja Ganszyniec. In September 2026, the exhibition will move to the Visteria Foundation's Gawroński Villa in Warsaw, led by Kataryna Jordan, emphasizing Polish design's future potential rooted in the legacy of the Institute of Industrial Design established by Wanda Telakowska in 1950.
