Visionary Places: Italy's ten most visionary restaurants bridging gastronomy and art
The Visionary Places project, launched in 2024 by Artribune, Gambero Rosso, and Feudi di San Gregorio, identifies Italy's ten most visionary restaurants, with three on the podium. The initiative recognizes establishments that excel in gastronomy, design, social responsibility, and cultural engagement. The winner is Luminist, the gastronomic outpost of Gallerie d'Italia in Naples, led by chef Giuseppe Iannotti. Second place goes to SanBrite in Cortina d'Ampezzo, run by chef Riccardo Gaspari, who emphasizes connection to mountain ingredients. Third is IO Luigi Taglienti in Piacenza, created in synergy with the Volumnia art and design gallery, with chef Luigi Taglienti. Other honorees include AlpInn at Plan de Corones (BZ), Ristorante Torre at Fondazione Prada in Milan, Il Sale in San Vincenzo (LI), Arnolfo in Colle Val d'Elsa (SI), Mazzo and Ninù in Rome, and Vettor in Bari. The selection committee included artist Gabriele De Santis, MondoMostre CEO Simone Todorow, and Emilia Petruccelli, co-founder of Galleria Mia in Rome and founder of EDIT Napoli. Creative director Ella Capaldo of Feudi di San Gregorio stated that cooking well is not enough; research, relationships with the local context, and beauty are essential. Gambero Rosso director Marco Mensurati noted the difficulty of defining visionary, as many deserving venues exist across Italy.
