Virtual reality tour lets you see 15th-century Milan through Leonardo da Vinci's eyes

digital · 2026-05-04

A new virtual reality tour, 'You Are Leo', launched in Milan on May 26, 2019, offering participants the chance to experience the city as Leonardo da Vinci saw it in the 1400s. The project is a collaboration between Ad Artem, a 25-year-old art education and dissemination company, and Way, an innovative startup born from three 20-year experiences in cultural planning, new technologies, and advertising. The tour starts from via Marconi 1 near Piazza Duomo and covers about two kilometers through central Milan, with five VR stops that transport users back in time. From early July, evening tours under the stars began at 9 PM. The experience is grounded in solid scientific research by a multidisciplinary team including archaeologists, art historians, architects, directors, storytellers, digital creatives, and 3D artists. Tours are available in Italian and English, with Chinese versions in development. The company has already secured agreements with tour operators and hotels to attract international visitors. Plans are underway to expand the concept to Venice, Florence, and Mantua. The interview was conducted by Marco Enrico Giacomelli and published in Artribune Magazine #49.
