Virtual reality exhibition at ZKM gives voice to Yazidi genocide survivors

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe is hosting 'Nobody's Listening', a virtual reality and immersive exhibition commemorating the Yazidi genocide perpetrated by ISIS in northern Iraq in summer 2014. The exhibition uses VR technology to raise international awareness about the genocide and its ongoing consequences, focusing on the future rather than the past. It provides a platform for survivors and displaced persons to tell their stories. Seven years after the genocide, approximately 3,000 Yazidi women and children remain missing or in captivity, and no ISIS fighter has been brought to justice for the crime of genocide. The exhibition is funded by the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). It opened on October 2 and runs until January 9, 2022.
