Virtual Museum of Soviet Architecture Launches Online with Cambridge University Press Publication Forthcoming
A digital museum dedicated to Soviet architecture has been created online through ARTMargins. Vladimir Paperny, based in Los Angeles, initiated this project after spending twenty-five years analyzing Soviet architectural forms as cultural expressions. His research was originally published in Russian as "Kul'tura dva" (Culture Two) by Ardis Publishers in 1985 and later by the Moscow journal Novoe literaturnoe obozrenie in 1996. An English translation of this work is scheduled for release next year by Cambridge University Press. Olga Filippova, an architectural student at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, contributed to the project by approaching the subject from a different perspective. The virtual museum explores the concept of "Kultura Dva" within digital space, examining Soviet architectural shapes as cultural utterances. This online initiative represents a collaborative effort between scholars in the United States, bridging geographical distances to study Soviet cultural heritage. The project was documented in August 2000 on the ARTMargins platform, featuring contributions from both researchers.
