Virginie Yassef's Hybrid Narratives at La Galerie, Noisy-Le-Sec
Virginie Yassef's exhibition at La Galerie in Noisy-Le-Sec, running from December 1, 2012, to February 9, 2013, blends fairy tale and science fiction. The installation, titled "On n'a jamais vu un chien faire, de propos délibéré, l'échange d'un os avec un autre chien" (2012), features animal skins, peacock feathers, an alien-like sculpture, a taxidermied dog with human eyes hanging from a coat rack, and a mural of a boy morphing into a canine. These objects form a "décor box" for future stories, to be used in a play at La Ferme du Buisson in Noisiel in spring 2013. Other works include "Airedificio" (2007), a cross between architectural model and spaceship; "Scénarios fantômes" (2012), incongruous urban and natural photos; "La Planche" (2012), a spinning fake wooden plank; and "Que faire des tissus de mammouth retrouvés en 1994 ?" (2012), a collection of decontextualized newspaper phrases. Yassef's works act as treasure hunts, assembling objects, images, and words to initiate enigmatic narratives.
