Virginia Zanetti's 'I pilastri della terra' Residency and Performances in India

artist · 2026-05-05

Tuscan artist and performer Virginia Zanetti realized her project 'I pilastri della terra' during a residency in India, supported by Movin'Up II, an initiative of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and GAI – Giovani Artisti Italiani. She collaborated with Gram Art Project in rural areas of Goa and near Nagpur (villages Melghat and Paradsingha), working with local communities, especially children of cotton field farmers and miners. Through workshops, she created collective actions exploring individual and collective potential in contradictory contexts. The project culminated in a lecture and solo exhibition curated by Valentina Gioia Levy at the Museum of Goa (MOG). The concept revolves around resurrection through vertical movement defying gravity, metaphorically challenging death. Zanetti explains that by overturning one's point of view, people become 'pillars of the earth,' supporting the world and enabling collective construction of new concepts to reshape the present.
