Virgilio Sieni Brings 'Thauma Atlante del gesto' to Matera for I-DEA's Third Stage
The third stage of the I-DEA project in Matera features Virgilio Sieni's 'Thauma Atlante del gesto', an atlas of gestures exploring the relationship between body, place, and community. Sieni, who has been traveling across Italy researching the 'gesture' central to his choreographic work, presents an exhibition comprising drawings, photographs, annotations, sequences, objects, films, and maps that evolve daily with field research. The project includes performances, installations, and participatory actions involving Basilicata citizens, anthropologists, diarists, architects, archivists, photographers, and videomakers. It builds on Sieni's 2007 founding of the Accademia del Gesto, a nomadic school uniting all ages to deepen bodily and gestural awareness. The exhibition opens September 12 at 6 PM with a vernissage, accompanied by a rich performance program. Previous I-DEA stages were curated by Mario Cresci and Formafantasma.
