Virgil Abloh's Vitra Ceramic Block Sells Out in Hours

market-auction · 2026-05-04

During Art Basel, Virgil Abloh launched a limited-edition collection for Vitra at the Fire Station designed by Zaha Hadid on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. The collection, titled TwentyThirtyFive and on view until July 31, includes a lamp (Petite Potence), an armchair (Antony), and a ceramic block. The orange ceramic block, produced in 999 numbered copies, sold for €149 each and sold out within hours. The collection is inspired by Jean Prouvé. Abloh also performed as a DJ during the event. The success triggered immediate resale on eBay at more than triple the original price. This follows Abloh's recent exhibition Figures of Speech at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (until September 20) and his upcoming Ikea capsule collection in 2020. His earlier design works were shown at Ca' d'Oro in Venice during the Biennale, presented by Carpenters Workshop Gallery under the title Acqua alta (until November 24).
