Virgil Abloh, Damien Hirst, and Tetsuzo Okubo Collaborate on Online Auction
Virgil Abloh, founder and creative director of Off-White, has launched an online auction on his platform Canary Yellow in collaboration with artist Damien Hirst and designer Tetsuzo Okubo. The collection, titled Beverly Hirst Recycler, parodies Okubo's Los Angeles-based brand Beverly Hills Recycler, which focuses on vintage and upcycling. The auction features jackets, shirts, sweaters, motorcycle jackets, and other garments from Hirst's personal wardrobe, modified by Okubo with pills, smileys, and skulls. Some items are stained with paint from Hirst's studio, making each piece unique. A leather jacket has a starting bid of approximately €8,300. New items are listed daily, one every eight hours, with the highest bidder winning. Ten percent of total sales will be donated to the Malibu Foundation. Each piece comes with a certificate of authenticity hand-signed by Okubo and Hirst. Abloh stated on Instagram that Canary Yellow provides a virtual showcase for works that do not fit the singular definition of 'Art.' The auction runs concurrently in London and Los Angeles.
