Viola Spettri: New Artist-Run Space Opens in Milan

In Milan, a growing number of independent cultural organizations are opening private artist studios to the public, a trend accelerated by the pandemic's economic and social impact. The latest example is Viola Spettri, a new space in the Cimiano district that transforms a former artist studio into a public venue. Founded by six artists—Lucia Cristiani (b. 1991, Milan), Lorenzo Lunghi (b. 1993, Crema), Edoardo Manzoni (b. 1993, Crema), Francesco Pacelli (b. 1988, Perugia), Mattia Pastore (b. 1990, Arzignano), and Adelisa Selimbasic (b. 1996, Karlsruhe)—the space retains its underground atmosphere while showcasing painting, sculpture, and installation works. The artists aim to reveal the creative process in its raw form, with brushes, colors, and chisels on display. Viola Spettri plans to host exhibitions, events, and exchange moments, promoting contemporary research across performance, music, and cross-disciplinary art. The initiative reflects a broader shift toward openness and sociality in Milan's art scene, with another example being Art Studio Finestreria in the Navigli district.
