Vincenzo Scolamiero's Siena Exhibition Bridges Poetry, Music, and Painting

Vincenzo Scolamiero (born 1956 in Sant'Andrea di Conza) presents 'Del silenzio e della trasparenza' at the Magazzini del Sale of Palazzo Pubblico in Siena, curated by Federico Fusj and inner room. The exhibition features sixty works, including cycles dedicated to poet Louise Glück and composer Luigi Nono, as well as sections 'Oro intorno' and 'Poi null'altro era rosso'. Scolamiero's practice engages with the historical Sienese painting tradition, citing influences from Duccio di Buoninsegna, Pietro and Ambrogio Lorenzetti, and Lippo Vanni, alongside modern masters Francis Bacon, Alberto Giacometti, and Giorgio Morandi. His technique employs pigments, inks, and lamellar metallic powders on paper, board, or canvas, creating a 'dialectic of light' that merges abstraction with allusions to vegetal forms, precious fabrics, and Homeric literature. The artist describes his relationship with Siena as long-standing, dating back to his formative years. The show transforms the austere palace spaces into a unified block infiltrated by painting, making removal seem unnatural. Scolamiero is characterized as a 'Ulyssean traveler' by poet Emilio Villa, exploring both cosmic and microscopic realms. The exhibition was held in 2021 at Palazzo Pubblico, Siena.
