Vincenzo de Bellis Appointed Director of Art Basel Fairs and Platforms
On July 7, 2022, Art Basel announced the appointment of Vincenzo de Bellis as the new director of fairs and exhibition platforms worldwide. De Bellis, currently a curator at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and director of the itinerant exhibition Panorama by the Italics consortium, will assume the role in August 2022. Born in 1977 in Castellana Grotte, Bari, he previously served as artistic director of Miart from 2012 to 2016, doubling exhibitor numbers. Marc Spiegler remains global director of Art Basel, focusing on strategic oversight. The appointment coincides with MCH Group's renewed investment in live events and fairs, with a capital increase planned by its main shareholders, Canton Basel and Lupa Systems. De Bellis will coordinate fair directors and develop non-fair projects, including collaborations with Tokyo Art Week and SEA Focus in Singapore. He will work between Basel and Zurich, relocating his family to Milan. His tenure at Walker concludes with a Jannis Kounellis exhibition in Minneapolis.
