Vincent Leroy's Metacloud floats over Tokyo streets
French artist Vincent Leroy has installed 'Metacloud', a giant blue cloud sculpture, in central Tokyo. The work consists of thin curved blades that create an illusion of lightness despite its monumental size, moving slowly to produce moiré effects. Leroy describes it as halfway between an experience and an artwork blending poetry and digital imagination. Born in Avranches in 1968 and based in Paris, Leroy is known for kinetic sculptures that alter perception of urban space. His previous works include Bubble Canyon, Boreal Halo, Slow Echo, and Slow Lens, which was exhibited in front of the Louvre and in Venice's canals. Metacloud offers an immersive, dreamlike experience in Tokyo's hyper-digital center.
