Vincent Honoré to curate 2018 Baltic Triennial across three Baltic institutions
Vincent Honoré will curate the 13th Baltic Triennial in 2018, as announced by the Contemporary Art Centre Vilnius. This edition marks the centenary of Baltic independence, regained between 1917 and 1918 from German and Russian empires. For the first time, the triennial will span three institutions, each representing one Baltic country: CAC Vilnius in Lithuania, Kim? Riga in Latvia, and CCA Tallinn in Estonia. Honoré has directed and curated London's David Roberts Arts Foundation since 2007, with prior roles as a curator at Palais de Tokyo in Paris from 2001 to 2004 and at Tate Modern in London from 2004 to 2007. In a statement, he described the 2018 edition as exploring 'infiltrations, displacements, and hybridisations as valid forms of production.' The event is scheduled for 2018, with the triennial historically focusing on contemporary art from the Baltic region. Honoré's appointment brings international curatorial experience to the triennial, which has been a significant platform for regional artists since its inception. The expansion to three venues underscores a collaborative approach among Baltic nations, highlighting their shared historical context and cultural ties.
