Viltrox Removes Display from AF 35mm f/1.2 LAB N Lens

other · 2026-04-24

Viltrox has announced the AF 35mm f/1.2 LAB N FE, a refined version of its original AF 35mm f/1.2 LAB lens released last year. The key change is the removal of the information display, with the 'N' standing for 'Non-Display Version,' creating a 'cleaner, more unified design.' A stepped aperture control ring replaces the multi-function control ring, addressing user demand for precise aperture adjustments. The optical construction remains unchanged with a 15-element, 10-group design, and the lens retains the Quad Hyper Voice Coil Motor (VCM) autofocus system. Weight stays at 910 grams (two pounds) in E-Mount. Initially, the new lens is only available for Sony E-mount; Nikon Z-mount owners still have only the display version. A non-display Z-mount version may follow pending the outcome of Nikon and Viltrox's legal battle in China. It is unclear if the Viltrox AF 135mm f/1.8 LAB lens will receive a similar 'N' version. The original lens was reviewed by PetaPixel as 'another budget winner,' but critic Chris Niccolls noted frustration with the control ring's noisy click-stops and the LCD's poor visibility. The new aperture control ring aims to improve user experience. Pricing remains $999, same as the screen-equipped sibling. The display version is 15% off until April 26, 2026, at $849.15, including the Nikon Z-mount version.
