Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art Debuts with 18 International and Lithuanian Artists
The inaugural Vilnius Biennial of Performance Art (VB23) wrapped up on August 6, 2023, highlighting the artistic landscape of Lithuania. Marking the city's 700th anniversary, the event was organized by Vilnius City Gallery Meno Niša and included 18 performances from both local and international artists, many of whom were commissioned specifically for VB23. Under the direction of Diana Stomienė and the curation of Neringa Bumblienė, featured artists included Pedro Barateiro, Eglė Budvytytė, and Emilija Škarnulytė. The biennial emphasized the city as a collective human-created space, with open call selections fostering collaborations. Lithuania, recognized for winning the Golden Lion at the 2019 Venice Biennale, is also home to prominent institutions like MO Museum and CAC, which host annual design and film festivals.
