Villa Manin in Friuli Venezia Giulia becomes performing arts residency center
Villa Manin, the historic dogal residence in Codroipo, Friuli Venezia Giulia, will become a permanent creative and cultural residency center for live performing arts, funded by a co-financing agreement between the Region and the Ministry of Culture reached in mid-July 2025. The project is set for the 2025-2027 triennium, and a call for applications from professional groups in live performance is open until September 12, 2025. The center will receive over €670,000 for its first year, aiming to support artistic creation and multidisciplinary practices, fostering relationships between artists and local communities. Applicants must have at least three years of residency experience. The center must host a minimum of 120 residency days per year and at least eight artists or groups, providing accommodation, equipped spaces, and financial compensation. Artists will stay in the Esedra di Ponente, which has 30 beds. The Esedra di Levante, abandoned for nearly 30 years, will reopen in mid-September after a €3 million restoration, hosting the inaugural exhibition "Confini. Da Gauguin a Hopper" curated by Marco Goldin from mid-October as part of Gorizia European Capital of Culture. An additional €15 million has been allocated for further renovations and the 18-hectare park. Villa Manin, built from the second half of the 17th century and remodeled in the 18th, was the site of the 1797 Treaty of Campoformio. Currently, the exhibition "Architetture trasparenti" runs until October 26.
