Villa Gamberaia launches contemporary artist residency with water theme

In April 2026, Villa Gamberaia, a historic 17th-century estate located in Settignano near Florence, introduced its inaugural artist residency titled "Un palcoscenico nella natura" (A Stage in Nature), under the curation of Emanuela Mazzonis. This program, which focuses on the theme of water, features artists Claudia Passeri (b. 1977, Luxembourg) and Federica Belli (b. 1998, Italy). Launched by the Zalum Marchi family, the initiative seeks to bridge the villa's legacy with contemporary artistic expressions. Once transformed by Princess Jeanne Catherine Kesco in the late 19th century, the villa has welcomed prominent individuals such as Edith Wharton and Gabriele D'Annunzio. The residency allows artists a three-week period to develop site-specific creations, enhancing the villa's cultural relevance.
