Villa Cavrois to Restore 128 Windows in Major Art Deco Conservation Project

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-28

The Centre des monuments nationaux (CMN) is set to undertake the restoration of 128 windows and glass doors at Villa Cavrois, which was crafted by Robert Mallet-Stevens between 1929 and 1932 for Paul Cavrois in Croix, France. This initiative will commence in late 2026 and will focus on studying and refurbishing each opening to ensure minimal disruption for visitors. Since its restoration in 2001 by DRAC Hauts-de-France and subsequent management by CMN starting in 2012, the villa aims to return to its 1920s appearance, using original components or recreating any lost features. The restoration, sponsored by Rolex, will also address interior surfaces and twenty electric clocks, with Carine Guimbard and Solène Blondet overseeing the project, which has been moved up from 2028.
