Villa Arson Hosts Three Exhibitions: Baxter&, Bismuth, and Colard-Lélu
From October 22, 2006, to January 7, 2007, Villa Arson in Nice will host three exhibitions curated by external commissioners under the leadership of new director Éric Mangion, showcasing artworks that have not been displayed in France before. One exhibition, titled 'Art is all over,' highlights Iain Baxter&, a pivotal figure in Canadian conceptual art and founder of N.E. Thing Co. in 1966, who merges art with daily life. His first light boxes emerged in 1968 after establishing a photo lab, leading to ventures like a restaurant and trade fairs that challenge traditional art production. Another exhibition features Pierre Bismuth, absent from French institutions since 1994, showcasing his unique coherence, including certificates of authenticity signed by artists such as Iain Baxter& and Ed Ruscha. Additionally, 'After,' a project by Jean-Max Colard and Thomas Lélu, started in 2004, explores artist memories through amateur photographs and critical texts. Lastly, in late October, 'NE PAS TOUCHER LE CONTOUR' will display drawings by nine Villa Arson art students.
