Vija Celmins Early Works at Ortuzar Projects

exhibition · 2026-05-01

California artist Vija Celmins is showcasing her early works at Ortuzar Projects, while additional pieces are displayed at P.P.O.W. through June 25. Concurrently, the New Museum features an exhibition titled 'Life on Mars,' which includes artists from the 2008 'Unmonumental' exhibition, such as Mark Bradford, Cao Fei, and Susan Philipsz. The new exhibition highlights that one-sixth of its 39 participating artists were part of the earlier show. Curator Eungie Joo faces scrutiny over the diversity of the lineup, with only seven artists from outside North America and Europe and just twelve being women. The theme of night is notably referenced throughout the exhibit.
