Vier5 and Hans Walter Müller Transform CAC Brétigny
The exhibition 'Family and Friends' at Centre d'art (CAC) Brétigny sur Orge, France, running from November 10 to December 8, 2007, celebrates five years of collaboration between German graphic design group Vier5 and the center. Since 2002, director Pierre Bal Blanc gave Vier5 carte blanche for all visual communication, boosting the center's visibility. Vier5, founded in 2002 by Marco Fiedler and Achim Reichert, challenges classical design legibility with hand-drawn, trembling graphics on folded posters and thin paper. Blanc also engaged local residents by installing works in public spaces, turning a neglected lawn into an exhibition extension. Pieces by Teresa Margolles, Atelier van Lieshout, and David Lamelas intercept passersby, making them active participants. Architect Hans Walter Müller created a modular, open structure with students from the adjacent technical high school, forming a shared esplanade that blurs boundaries between inside and outside, art and architecture. These public works, however, are slated for dismantling.
