Vienne 1880-1938: Major Exhibition at Centre Pompidou

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The long-awaited exhibition 'Vienne 1880-1938' opens February 6 at the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, exploring the spiritual and intellectual unity of a singular era described by Karl Kraus as a 'laboratory for the Apocalypse.' Curated by Gérard Régnier, the show features approximately 2,000 objects, including precious works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, and Oskar Kokoschka—on loan from Viennese collections for the first time in Paris. Organized at the initiative of the Musée national d'art moderne, with participation from the Centre de création industriel, the Bibliothèque publique d'information, IRCAM, and the Musée d'Orsay, the exhibition will be accompanied by concerts, conferences, and colloquia.
