Vienna's Must-See Exhibitions for Late 2025
Vienna's cultural scene is bustling with major exhibitions through early 2026. At the Albertina, 'Gothic Modern' (until Jan 11, 2026) reexamines modernism's debt to late medieval art, featuring works by Munch, Beckmann, and Kollwitz. The Albertina Modern hosts a retrospective on Marina Abramović (until Mar 1, 2026), curated by Bettina M. Busse, with thematic rooms exploring performance, body limits, and spirituality. The Belvedere presents French Impressionist masterpieces from the Museum Langmatt in Baden, Switzerland (until Feb 8, 2026), including works by Cézanne, Monet, and Renoir. The Heidi Horten Collection opens two shows: 'The Line' (until Mar 8, 2026) examining the artistic line from Klee to Shiota, and a solo exhibition by photographer Ouriel Morgensztern (until Apr 12, 2026). These are the last exhibitions under director Agnes Husslein-Arco. At mumok, Tobias Pils' solo show 'Shh' (until Apr 12, 2026) covers a decade of his work, marking the transition from director Karola Kraus to Fatima Hellberg. The Kunsthistorisches Museum mounts a comprehensive retrospective of Michaelina Wautier (until Feb 22, 2026), reuniting nearly all her known works, including the monumental 'Triumph of Bacchus' long attributed to Rubens. Finally, the Kunstverein Gartenhaus presents Anna Franceschini's first Austrian solo show (until Nov 15, 2025), featuring dancing machines with synthetic wigs that critique consumer aesthetics.
