Vienna Museums Protest Social Media Censorship by Posting Art on OnlyFans

Vienna's tourism board has launched an OnlyFans account to protest social media censorship of artworks, featuring content from the Albertina Museum, Leopold Museum, Natural History Museum, and Kunsthistorisches Museum. The initiative responds to repeated restrictions on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, where works by artists including Egon Schiele, Nobuyoshi Araki, and the Venus of Willendorf statuette have been blocked. Subscribers to the account can view censored pieces by Schiele, VALIE EXPORT, Amedeo Modigliani, Peter Paul Rubens, and others, with early subscribers receiving Vienna City Cards or gallery tickets. Norbert Kettner, director of the Vienna tourist board, criticized algorithms that determine acceptable nudity levels, stating that nude art is a socio-political and artistic part of cultural history in Vienna. The move highlights ongoing conflicts between cultural institutions and social media content policies over artistic expression.
