Georg Kargl, the Vienna-based art dealer who established Georg Kargl Fine Arts and the Society of Projective Aesthetics, passed away at age 62. His gallery, launched in 1998, was among the pioneering venues in Vienna's Schleifmühlgasse district, now a hub for contemporary art spaces. Earlier, in 1980, he co-founded Galerie Metropol with Christian Meyer, initially focusing on Art Nouveau before shifting to contemporary art. In 2005, Kargl opened the experimental 'BOX' space under curator Fiona Liewehr, dedicated to showcasing emerging artists.
