Vienna Art Dealer Georg Kargl, Founder of Georg Kargl Fine Arts, Dies at 62

Georg Kargl, the Vienna-based art dealer who established Georg Kargl Fine Arts and the Society of Projective Aesthetics, passed away at age 62. His gallery, launched in 1998, was among the pioneering venues in Vienna's Schleifmühlgasse district, now a hub for contemporary art spaces. Earlier, in 1980, he co-founded Galerie Metropol with Christian Meyer, initially focusing on Art Nouveau before shifting to contemporary art. In 2005, Kargl opened the experimental 'BOX' space under curator Fiona Liewehr, dedicated to showcasing emerging artists. By 2006, a third location, converted from former business premises, became a permanent art venue. Georg Kargl Fine Arts represents 47 artists, including Cerith Wyn Evans, Agnieszka Polska, Matt Mullican, Vera Frenkel, and Mark Dion.
