Videocittà 2021 Returns to Rome with Video Art and NFT Focus
Videocittà 2021, the Festival of Vision, takes place from September 15 to 19 at Palazzo dei Congressi and Giardino delle Cascate in Rome. Founded by Francesco Rutelli and directed by Francesco Dobrovich, the festival dedicates September 17 to contemporary art with a video art section on the terrace of Palazzo dei Congressi. Following the opening with AES+F on September 16, a talk titled 'NFT – Nuove prospettive di espressione e di mercato' organized by Artribune will be held at 9 PM on September 17, moderated by visual artist Christian Nirvana Damato, involving Bruno Pitzalis, Giulio Bozzo, and Mattia Cuttini. The talk explores aspects of crypto art, leading into a video art evening. Curators Damiana Leoni and Rä di Martino selected artists around the themes 'People and Planet,' focusing on animation including CGI, gaming, and NFTs. Featured artists include Jon Rafman, Nathalie Djurberg–Hans Berg, Hans Op de Beeck, and young artist Giulio Scalisi. Works range from 2005 to 2021. The video art section aims to attract a broader audience with a non-orthodox cultural vision, leveraging digital animation. Leoni and di Martino collaborated spontaneously, combining Leoni's communication background with di Martino's tech expertise. The festival highlights Rome's role as a city of cinema while offering new synergies for contemporary art audiences. Videocittà provides spectacular projections uncommon for video artists, blending digital art, installations, music, and contemporary art.
