Videobrasil, Kentridge Retrospective, and São Paulo Biennial History Highlight City's Art Scene
The 18th Videobrasil, an international festival dedicated to film and video, is taking place at SESC Pompéia in São Paulo, Brazil, until February. This year's event showcases one hundred pieces from artists hailing from the Global South, including countries such as Mali, Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Lebanon, Israel, and Lithuania. Notable screenings include Akram Zaatari's 'The End of Time' from 2012 and Enrique Ramirez's 'Brisas' from 2008. Additionally, a retrospective of William Kentridge's work is on display at Pinacoteca, featuring films and sculptures, while '30 x Bienal' at Ibirapuera Park presents historical pieces like Cildo Meireles's 'Espelho Cego.' The 32nd Panorama da Arte Brasileira at the Museu de Arte Moderna, curated by Lisette Lagnado, challenges conventional museum hierarchies. SESC operates 30 centers throughout Brazil.
