Videobrasil announces artist lineup for 20th edition of São Paulo contemporary art festival
The 20th edition of the Contemporary Art Festival Sesc_Videobrasil will feature a diverse international roster of artists from October 2017 through January 2018. Chief curator Solange Farkas leads the programming team including Ana Pato, Beatriz Lemos, Diego Matos, and João Laia. This São Paulo-based biennial focuses primarily on moving image work, presenting an exhibition, screening program, and conference. The artist list spans 32 countries with notable participants like Alia Farid (Kuwait/Puerto Rico), Alyona Larionova (Russia/United Kingdom), and Ana Elisa Egreja (Brazil). Other featured artists include Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Búrca (Brazil/Germany), Filipa César (Portugal/Germany), and Sammy Baloji (Democratic Republic of the Congo/Belgium). The festival showcases work from across Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, with Brazilian artists representing a significant portion of the lineup. Artists like Mona Vatamanu & Florin Tudor (Romania), Monira Al Qadiri (Senegal/Kuwait), and Natasha Mendonca (India) will present their moving image works. The program includes participants from Lebanon (Haig Aivazian, Roy Dib), Mexico (Andrés Padilla Domene, Daniel Monroy Cuevas), and Peru (Elizabeth Vásquez Arbulú, Felipe Esparza Pérez). Additional artists featured are Karo Akpokiere (Nigeria), Kavich Neang (Cambodia), Köken Ergun (Turkey), and Pakui Hardware (Lithuania). The festival runs for four months in São Paulo, Brazil.
