Victoria Miro and Sean Kelly Gallery to Co-Represent Shahzia Sikander
Victoria Miro has revealed a collaboration with Sean Kelly Gallery to co-represent Shahzia Sikander. The New York artist will showcase her inaugural exhibition with Victoria Miro in London from June 5 to July 31, highlighting her latest animation, '3 to 12 Nautical Miles,' which premiered this spring at M+ in Hong Kong. Born in Lahore, Pakistan, in 1969, Sikander obtained a BFA from the National College of Arts in 1991, where her thesis, 'The Scroll' (1989–90), garnered national recognition and contributed to the emergence of the 'neo-miniature' movement. In 1992, she became the first female student of Bashir Ahmed to teach miniature painting at NCA. She completed her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design in 1995 and has resided in New York City since then, creating works that explore themes of gender, sexuality, racial narratives, and colonial histories, significantly shaping South Asian diaspora art in contemporary America.
