Victoria Beckham curates Old Masters sale for Sotheby's London

market-auction · 2026-05-04

On July 4, Sotheby's London will auction a selection of Old Master portraits during its Old Master Evening Sale, curated by Victoria Beckham. The former Spice Girl and fashion designer chose the works, which are currently displayed in her Mayfair boutique until June 27. The exhibition includes paintings by Peter Paul Rubens, Lucas Cranach the Elder, and followers of Leonardo da Vinci. Beckham's store, designed by architect Farshid Moussavi and opened in 2015, has previously hosted contemporary artists like Turner Prize winner Martin Creed, Eddie Peake, and Emily Young. Beckham cited a visit to the Frick Collection in New York as sparking her interest in Old Masters. Sotheby's specialist Chloe Stead hopes the juxtaposition of classic portraits in a modern space will engage collectors and highlight the enduring appeal of portraiture in an age of selfies.
