Vicenza's Palazzo Chiericati Opens New Roi Wing with 300+ Works
The Museo Civico di Palazzo Chiericati in Vicenza inaugurated the Ala Roi on December 20, 2024, adding 11 newly restored galleries to the museum. The wing houses over 300 works from the 17th to 19th centuries, including altarpieces by Tiepolo and Piazzetta from the church of Araceli, terracotta sketches from Orazio Marinali's workshop, and a plaster cast by Canova. The expansion features period furnishings and silk fabrics from the Marasca Collection, recreating historical interiors. Dedicated sections include portraits on copper and ivory, wax sculptures, views by Cristoforo Dall'Acqua, Risorgimento personalities, and works by Giovanni Busato. The project was funded by the Fondazione istituita dal marchese Giuseppe Roi (established 1988) and is part of a broader transformation of the museum into a cultural citadel, which began in 2010 with the restoration of the Palladian building and will conclude with the renovation of technical and service areas. City councilor for culture Ilaria Fantin stated that the new permanent exhibition path demonstrates the potential for recovering and enhancing civic heritage.
