Vibeke Mascini's Rendezvous at Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Vibeke Mascini presents 'Rendezvous', a new site-specific installation at Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro in Milan, opening September 28. The project, curated by Chiara Pirozzi and Alessandra Troncone, is part of the foundation's Project Room series. Mascini's work explores time through complex installations that incorporate 3D scans of dinosaur footprints created in collaboration with MUSE – Museo delle Scienze di Trento. The artist, known for generating electricity from beached whale remains, uses a CO2 sensor to capture visitors' breath, which is then transferred to water contained within fossils. This creates an encounter between three traces: two fossilized footprints from different epochs near Trento and the ephemeral chemical imprint of the audience's respiration. Mascini's research is driven by the alchemy of destruction and regeneration in electrical infrastructures, having worked with electricity from whales, seized cocaine, melting glaciers, and human remains. She draws inspiration from Arnaldo Pomodoro's method of working on negative forms, which led her to visit Milan's Natural History Museum and discover the ichnospecies included in the exhibition.
