Vibe Compiler: A Tool to Enhance Metacognition in AI-Assisted Research

A new tool called the Vibe Compiler has been proposed to address the erosion of human epistemic agency caused by generative AI in intellectual work. The tool, based on the Synthesis-Analysis Reciprocity Model, helps researchers transform vague ideas into coherent research logic without requiring prompt engineering. It uses a research paper ontology of sixteen academic parameters to compile ideas, and compilation failures indicate missing logical components. The proposal is detailed in a paper on arXiv (2608.05545), which argues that while generative AI accelerates intellectual work, it risks encouraging uncritical acceptance of AI-generated reasoning. The Vibe Compiler aims to augment metacognition during AI-assisted work, preserving human agency. The system is designed to assist researchers in structuring their thoughts and identifying gaps in their reasoning, thereby fostering a more critical engagement with AI outputs.
