VIASCAPE design transforms Shanghai metro area with pocket park and tram plaza

In Shanghai, VIASCAPE design completed the second phase of an urban renewal project around Caoxi Rd metro station. The project, led by architect Sun Yijia with a team including MA Li, Ji Yuwei, and ZHOU Mi, began in spring 2022 with a master plan finalized in July 2022. The first phase, Caoxi Road Pocket Park, was built by end of 2023. The second phase, 'El Lugar Feliz bajo el Tren Ligero' (The Happy Place under the Light Rail), was designed in December 2023 and completed by March 2025. Covering 3,540 square meters, the project aims to revitalize a deteriorated urban core area through phased spatial and functional improvements. The client is Xuhui District Greening Administration, with supervision by Xuhui District Greening and City Appearance Administration Bureau and Caohejing. The LDI is Shanghai Greening-Landscaping Construction Co., Ltd, and the contractor is Shanghai Xuhui Landscape Development Co., Ltd. Photographs were taken by Shan Liang.
