Viafarini launches online archive for 30th anniversary

digital · 2026-04-27

Milanese nonprofit Viafarini has launched a new website (viafarini.org) to mark its 30th anniversary, making thousands of documents, photographs, and videos freely accessible. The archive, recognized by Italy's MIBACT, holds portfolios of 5,000 artists and a documentation center with monographs, catalogs, and essays. Housed at Fabbrica del Vapore, it supports the VIR Viafarini-in-residence program and incubation activities. The site was realized by Patrizia Brusarosco (founder), curator Giulio Verago, Tommaso Pagani, Francesca De Zotti, and digital team Officinebit.ch (Umberto Cavenago, Alice Sarchielli, Matteo Frigé, Ilaria Calderola). It also features recordings from a December 2020 roundtable on cultural incubators at Fabbrica del Vapore, with participants including Florence's culture assessor Tommaso Sacchi, Stefano Boeri (Triennale di Milano), and Lorenzo Balbi (MAMBo Bologna). Viafarini was founded in 1991 on the model of American nonprofits and European Kunstverein, pioneering the project room concept in Italy. Its mission is to promote young Italian artists internationally, foster mobility, and expand audiences through exhibitions and educational tools.
