VI International Seminar ARTE!Brasileiros: In Defense of Nature and Culture

The VI International Seminar ARTE!Brasileiros: In Defense of Nature and Culture – The Art of the Possible will be held virtually on October 8 and 9, from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Organized in partnership with the Goethe-Institut, the event marks the 10th anniversary of the publication arte!brasileiros. The seminar addresses urgent themes amplified during the pandemic, including environmental devastation, systemic violence, and attacks on culture and freedom of expression. Participants include philosopher Franco 'Bifo' Berardi, environmental leader Ailton Krenak, indigenous artist and activist Naiara Tukano, scientist Antônio Donato Nobre, curator Andrea Giunta, and the duo Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca. Berlin Biennale curators Lisette Lagnado and Agustín Pérez Rubio, artists Aline Baiana and Edgar Calel, and the curatorial trio of Frestas – Triennial of Arts, Diane Lima, Beatriz Lemos, and Thiago de Paula Souza, will also contribute. The seminar references Joseph Beuys's 1980-1985 series 'Defense of Nature' and connects to exhibitions like the Berlin Biennale, which opened with restrictions on September 4-6 after being suspended in April, and Frestas, occurring partially in Sorocaba. The event will be streamed on YouTube and various digital platforms.
