VGP Play: Italian streaming platform for video game history documentaries launches
Italian agency Videogames Party has launched VGP Play, a free streaming platform dedicated to video game history documentaries. The platform hosts extended interviews with industry pioneers, organized into eight thematic sections including 'Founders', 'Women Power', and 'Around the World'. The project grew out of the Videogame Legends documentary series, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic when the agency's event business stalled. Executive producer Nicola Pisano said that after conducting over 300 interviews, they realized they could create a more comprehensive project. VGP Play is currently available via browser, with mobile apps for Android and iOS and smart TV apps planned. The platform features full-length interviews edited as standalone documentaries with narration providing context. The Videogame Legends series continues as a condensed version for casual viewers. Fact-checking is supported by historian Steven L. Kent, author of 'The Ultimate History of Video Games'. The platform aims to balance celebratory tone with authenticity, avoiding conflicts with game companies while covering both niche and mainstream titles like Candy Crush.
