Vevey's Images Festival Transforms City into Open-Air Photography Museum

festival-fair · 2026-04-23

The second Images Festival took place in Vevey, Switzerland, from September 4 to 26, 2010, focusing on photography in public settings. Noteworthy features included JR's presentation of archival images from the Musée de l'Élysée, showcasing pieces by Robert Capa, Man Ray, and others, along with a minaret image that sparked local debate. The overarching theme of 'intrusion' was evident in large-scale installations and curated exhibits by various artists. Maurice Schobinger's 'Stalingrad Volgograd Mémoire' was displayed in corten steel containers, while Hans Op de Beeck introduced 'Rooms.' A newly opened 5,000-square-meter museum hosted exhibitions, including works by Ursula Mumenthaler. The Grand Prix was awarded to Christian Lutz and G.M.B. Akash, and Lucie & Simon received the Nestlé Project Grant. The festival concluded with Jean-Jacques Lebel's exhibition.
