Vettor Pisani's final 'Scorrevole' and the existential space

exhibition · 2026-05-04

In the eighth installment of her series on existential space, Lucrezia Longobardi reflects on Vettor Pisani's 2011 work 'Scorrevole,' installed at Fondazione Morra in Naples in 2019. The piece, a cable stretched across a labyrinth, suspends memories of Duchampian matrices and performances reinterpreting transformation rituals. Pisani, who performed in 1970, concludes his career with this work, replacing human figures with a child doll tied by one foot. Longobardi describes sleeping in the exhibition space, with the cable's end facing her monastic bed, evoking the ghost of Pisani and others who chose to exit reality. The work is housed in a 'non-room,' a white, mental space of oblivion, where the last work of the artist from Bari/Ischia appears. The text also references Hélène Fauquet's glass bell work and Luigi Ghirri's photograph of a rural building with a poster, illustrating the paradox of returning from dreams to reality. Longobardi, born in 1991 near Naples, graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples with a thesis on existential space and research on Gregor Schneider and Renata Lucas.
