Versailles to Host Major Exhibition on Sofia Coppola's 'Marie Antoinette'

The Palace of Versailles has announced a major exhibition dedicated to Sofia Coppola's cult film 'Marie Antoinette' (2006), scheduled for autumn 2026. The show will run from September 22, 2026, to January 24, 2027, at the Petit Trianon, a location intimately linked to both the historical queen and the film's set. Curated by Laurent Salomé, director of the National Museum of the Palace of Versailles, and Hélène Delalex, chief curator of the Palace's Heritage, the exhibition will celebrate the film's 20th anniversary and its profound impact on popular culture and the perception of Marie Antoinette. Visitors will see original costumes by Milena Canonero, who won an Oscar for Best Costume Design in 2007, along with set photographs, sketches, storyboards, and annotated scripts. Immersive projections will allow visitors to relive scenes filmed in the same spaces two decades ago. The exhibition is part of a broader 2026 program at Versailles, which also includes 'Gardens of the Enlightenment (1750-1800)' in spring, a monographic show on Dutch Mannerist sculptor Adriaen de Vries, and a photography exhibition by Yasumichi Morita focusing on Versailles' architectural details.
