Versailles Opens Perfumer's Garden with 300 Plant Species
The Palace of Versailles has inaugurated a new green space called 'Il Giardino del Profumiere' (The Perfumer's Garden), sponsored by Maison Francis Kurkdjian. After two years of work, the area features 300 plant varieties and is divided into three sections: the Garden of Curiosities in front of the Orangerie, Under the Trees (a pink avenue of Japanese cherry trees), and the Secret Garden. The garden revives the spirit of the 17th-century Trianon Gardens commissioned by King Louis XV in the late 1700s. Summer workshops include 'The Perfumer's Lab', teaching visitors to create fragrances using historical plants like hyacinths, peonies, and violets. The garden is open to families, students, and associations.
