Veronica Montanino's 'It's a wonderful world' invades MARCA Museum
At the MARCA Museum in Catanzaro, Veronica Montanino presents 'It's a wonderful world,' a solo exhibition curated by Giorgio de Finis and Simona Gavioli, running until May 22, 2016. The show features over sixty works, including large paintings, installations, and assemblages, many site-specific. The ground floor hosts 'Parterre,' a garden installation co-designed with landscape architect Michela Pasquali, described by the artist as a 'manifesto' of her intent to invade the museum with living, organic matter. Upstairs, 'Self portrait,' previously shown at the 2011 Venice Biennale, is reconfigured with black objects on a white organic floor shape, emphasizing metamorphosis over formal rigidity. Another installation, 'PANGEA,' a social table first presented at Casa dell'Architettura in Rome, is reimagined as a 360-degree room with a psychedelic felt floor and mirrored walls. Works also include portraits of children from MAAM (Museo dell'Altro e dell'Altrove) in Rome, referencing Montanino's permanent intervention at Metropoliz in 2013. The artist underscores the importance of creative reinvention, stating that art is a 'practice of rebellion against the status quo.' Museum director Rocco Guglielmo, a notary by profession, is praised for his hands-on approach, which Montanino contrasts with institutional coldness.
