Verona's Ars District: Urban Regeneration of the Former Arsenal by 2026

Verona is in the process of converting the ex Arsenale, a former Austrian Arsenal located in the Borgo Trento area, into the Ars District, a center for culture and innovation. Spanning 27,400 sqm, this municipal property is being restored and repurposed by Politecnica, with Micaela Goldoni overseeing the project. Engaging the public, the initiative will feature multifunctional areas for community use, co-working spaces, temporary exhibition sites, and accessible storage for both the Museo di Castelvecchio and the Natural Sciences Museum. A public park with pathways for pedestrians and cyclists will link the area to Castelvecchio. Restoration work, which commenced in 2023, involves several firms, including De Vita & Schulze Architetti. The complex, constructed in the late 19th century and previously serving as an Italian barracks until the 1990s, showcases various architectural styles. Original plans have been sourced from Vienna, and the Palazzina di Comando seeks LEED certification under the GBC-HB Historic Building standard, with an expected completion date in 2026.
