Verona Launches Photography Festival Grenze – Arsenali fotografici

Verona will host its first photography festival, Grenze – Arsenali fotografici, from June 1 to 3 at the former Arsenale militare. The event features 18 established and 8 emerging photographers exploring the theme of borders through reportage, portraiture, and still life. Conceived by art critic Simone Azzoni, photographer Francesca Marra, and photography scholar Arianna Novaga, the festival operates with zero budget, no sponsors, and is organized by the Design Palladio institute in collaboration with IUSVE University and the patronage of the Municipality of Verona. Azzoni emphasized the need to bring international photography back to Verona after the closure of the Scavi Scaligeri exhibition space. The festival aims to foster dialogue among different photographic styles and support artists over time, rather than relying on paid calls or self-referential selections. Participating photographers include Alice Laloy, Andrea Santini, Emiliani, Antonia Messineo, Giovanna Catalano, Francesca Marra, members of the Collettivo Fotosocial, Giorgia Chinellato, and Andrea Tassitano. A section is dedicated to emerging artists.
