Vera Neel: From Siberia to Santa Fe, a Multidisciplinary Artist's Journey

Vera Neel, a multidisciplinary artist based in New Mexico, shares her portfolio of colorful landscapes and floral paintings. Born in Russia, she absorbed Siberian nature before moving to the United States in 2004. Her artistic path is largely self-directed, though she has participated in workshops with artists such as Albert Handell, Peter Nisbet, David Mayer, and Elena Gubарь. She works primarily in oil with a palette knife, drawn to its physicality, and also practices felting with wool and silk to create accessories and garments. Her work centers on landscapes and floral motifs, but she presents nature as presence rather than background, seeking decorative rhythm and underlying tension. In recent years, her awareness of environmental fragility—overproduction, consumption, waste—has integrated into her work, using beauty as an entry point to deeper questions. She also works in a postmodernist direction, using imagery and allegories from art history. Her goal is to awaken viewers through aesthetic experience, inviting reflection on preservation. Her background in marketing, management, graphic design, digital media, and fashion informs her practice. Since 2021, she has been co-owner of Art Mozaik Gallery in Santa Fe, supporting artists' professional growth.
